Thomas “Tam” Brannan 22.02.68 – 10.08.15
It was with much sadness that we announced the death of Thomas “Tam” Brannan on 10th August, 2015, aged 47 years old. Tom was a founder Director of Greentech Sportsturf Ltd and had been fighting cancer since the beginning of the year but sadly lost his battle. He faced the challenge of his cancer in the same way he faced his life and work – with bravery, optimism and a sense of humour.
Tom spent all of his working career in the turf industry, starting his career as apprentice Greenkeeper at Ratho Park Golf Club. This involved getting up at 3.30 a.m., getting 3 buses and then a 3 mile walk to work but he loved the job and learned his trade there. After 4 years, he was promoted to Deputy Head Greenkeeper. During his time At Ratho Park, he attended Oatridge Agricultural College and was apprentice of the year 3 years running. Being a natural salesman, he then moved on to work as Territory Manager with Souter of Stirling where he worked for 9 years before leaving in 1998 to set up his own business , Greentech Sportsturf, with his 2 fellow Directors, Hugh Murray and Kevin Brunton and Office Manager, Jane Smith.
Over the years, he has made many friends in the industry and was well loved and respected. His knowledge of the turfcare industry was extensive and if he did not know the answer, he would do everything he could to find it out. He was creative and always on the look out for new products, especially on his business trips to the Golf Industry Show in the United States.
He is survived by his wife Jana and 3 children ; Chloe, Erin and Lewis. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, customers and business associates.
To give you an idea of Hugh’s work, think Manchester United and Celtic Football Clubs, St Andrews Links and Murrayfield Rugby Stadium – just some of the high profile reconstruction projects he’s worked on with Greentech. Today he heads up our Contracts Department and, true to his hands-on approach, likes nothing better than seeing projects through from concept to completion. In his spare time, Hugh’s eye is on sports in the fast lane – Formula One and rally.
Area Sales Manager for North Scotland
When Neil joined us in 2006 he brought with him 14 years of knowledge from Sales & Support in the sports turf industry. Add to that groundsman and greenkeeping experience from his previous career, and we’d say he’s the perfect match for our clients. Away from work, he’s an avid sports fan and hockey coach. And when he’s not working on tactics, Neil takes in the Scottish countryside on his motorbike.
With a career in greenkeeping neatly tucked under his belt and qualifications in golf course management and sports turf science, Kyle knows more than a thing or two about sports surfaces. Construction and maintenance can never get too technical for him which is why he’s ideally placed to look after our customers in Northern Ireland. While Kyle’s holiday travels take him to far flung corners of the world – Asia and North America included – he also keeps close to home exploring Ireland.
Area Sales Manager for Southern Ireland
Heading up our newest adventure in Southern Ireland, Eamonn has a fine blend of turf, horticultural and business development experience that gives him a distinctively competitive edge. Outside work, he’s a sports fanatic and member of the Gaelic Athletic Association, going all out to promote Gaelic games. But his love of sport doesn’t stop there – he also plays for Killarney Rugby Seniors.
Jane’s been overseeing the smooth running of the Greentech office since 1998. Her to-do list has grown with the business but she takes on every challenge that comes her way and still finds the time to process orders and invoices, and manage stock control. In her free time Jane’s either out to impress or be impressed, when showing her cocker spaniels and judging at dog shows up and down the country.
If there’s one word to sum up Colin’s work, it has to be ‘meticulous’. He’s been with us since day one, working on projects for golf and football clubs across the country. We can genuinely say his eye for detail makes him one of the best shapers in the UK – when Colin heads for the finish line, he brings every angle, shape and contour perfectly to life.
Contract Maintenance Manager
Duncan heads up our Contracts Maintenance Division and with over 30 years’ experience and a bundle of qualifications to his name, what he doesn’t know about greenkeeping isn’t worth knowing. Standards-driven, he’s on a personal mission to get bowling greens looking and playing better. His competitive edge takes him to the golf course but when he really wants to get away from it all, he likes time out at sea.
Eric is ACCA qualified and brings over two decades of high-level accountancy experience to the table. He talks figures in plain in English and fearlessly takes on everything from financial planning and forecasting to cashflow management, tax returns and insurance. Eric gets involved in charity fundraising but when he’s not tackling figures he plays five-a-side football and heads off to horse racing meetings.
HR & ISO Quality Manager
Lindsey knows what it takes to make Greentech a great place to work. She finds the perfect fit when we’re recruiting, develops and advises on HR processes and ensures we adhere to ISO quality standards. Not one to sit still, she also helps with finance and credit control. Lindsey’s hobbies – walking, baking and tap dancing – are a real reflection of her energetic approach, though she’s keen to stress not all at the same time.
Flora McGregor has many years’ experience in admin and accounts and is in charge of the purchase ledger, as well as other jobs. Flora is a perfectionist and her attention to detail is second to none.
In her spare time, she loves grabbing a paint brush and doing some decorating or DIY and after that, she likes to share a light refreshment with her family and friends. She keeps fit by walking the latest member of her family, her spaniel puppy.
